Our Story & Logo Background

What's Up With The Dots?

Wondering why we have 6 dots in our logo? And why are they those particular colours?

The Central Otago wine growing region is divided into 6 very distinct sub-regions, seperated by rivers, mountain ranges, highways & bridges.

Each sub-region has it's own special 'terroir' or turangawaewae - that unique aspect expressed through it's climate, soils & position. (& with wine, it's people)

The 6 sub-regions are:

  • Wanaka
  • Cromwell
  • Bendigo
  • Bannockburn
  • Alexandra
  • Gibbston

Sub-Regions

Each sub-region has special aspect, expressed often through it's climate or even micro-climates within that area. The colours in our logo portray the essence of these regions & it's wines.

Many of Central Otago's wine growers have vineyards in more than one sub-region so while we may think a certain label is from one particular area, often their grapes will come from not only that sub-region but other areas as well - who knew!?!

Every growing season & harvest is different here in the southern most grape growing region of New Zealand & Mother Nature has been known to throw a few curve balls to keep us on our toes - each sub-region has their own 'favourite' type of season & often the sub-regional differences can show through clearer in more challenging years.
