About the Pinot Junction

Set in the heart of the Cromwell Heritage Precinct, Pinot Junction is a café and wine store with a sense of community that reaches well beyond the region’s permanent residents. Since opening in the historic Murrells Cottage in 2022, it’s become a beloved destination for breakfast, coffee and lunch and the promise of its famous cinnamon scrolls.

Owner Kate Barnett, who spent years in the Central Otago wine world, has created an environment that feels safe, warm, and genuine from the moment you step inside. Whether you’re a Cromwell local or visiting from across the globe, Kate together with her incredible team of chefs, baristas, and bakers, welcomes you like an old friend. It’s a delicious experience before you’ve even looked at the menu.

The space is rustic yet refined, with thoughtful touches throughout. Local art adorns the walls, including a painting of the precinct’s streetscape that Kate purchased at a school fair, years before Pinot Junction was a twinkle in her eye. Seating spans cosy indoor corners, original kauri church pews along the verandah, and picnic tables all the way to the lake’s edge, often shared by locals, happy dogs, and friends enjoying a leisurely lunch in the sun....
